The Machine Learning Lab at UT Austin will be hosting its first public lecture: "AI for Accurate and Fair Imaging" on April 1, 2022, from 4-5 pm in the Gates Dell Complex on main campus, followed by refreshments in the GDC atrium.
In 2020, a website that used machine learning sparked controversy when it reconstructed a low-resolution image of President Obama as a white man. The image, now called ‘White Obama,’ is a startling display of bias in AI imaging algorithms. Researchers at the Machine Learning Lab (MLL) and the Institute for Foundations of Machine Learning (IFML) set out to find the source of the problem—and solve it. Learn more about this research from MLL and IFML co-director Dr. Alex Dimakis.
